Protest against CFS-NL's Excluding the NLFirst

2008-10-05

Hey everyone, i've been asked whether we'll be organizing a protest against CFS-NL's decision to Exclude the NL First Party from the October 8th 2008 Candidates Debate. The answer is yes, and it's looking like it will be either Monday morning or Tuesday afternoon. The preliminary location is the CFS (Canadian Federation of Students) office just off Elizabeth Avenue (near the MUN Fieldhouse).

Their office is located adjacent to St.James Church on Elizebeth Avenue and the Irving/Ultramar on Elizabeth Avenue, just next to MUN. The two proposed times would be either 11am on Monday or 1:30p.m on Tuesday. I would appreciate some feedback as to which (if any) of these times would be better. If you can think of a better time for a protest, please let me know.

Below is the response I gave when asked yesterday if there would be a protest....

" I'm working on it.... i'm thinking about protesting in front of the CFS Building near MUN (it's adjacent to the Irving station near the Fieldhouse). As of right now, I haven't had too much time to plan it. But ya, either monday morning or tuesday at lunchtime would be the ideal.

Would you be willing to help? In fact, Shannon Tobin (a former MUN Student and Progressive Canadian candidate in St.John's East) has also been excluded from the debate, as that party doesn't currently have an MP. The Greens would be in the same boat right now, notwithstanding Blair Wilson (a Liberal-turned Independent) crossing the floor to join the Green Party a week before the election.

Either way, I'll be planning this real soon!"
